Traditional Bitdefender subscriptions sold by retailers
The word “traditional” describes the subscription package. It does not mean that Bitdefender has put a completely different antivirus engine inside it. These are the familiar retail products many customers already use and resellers continue to offer, often at lower prices than the newer direct packages. If you do not need the newer account structure or bundled SecurePass, one of these can still be the simpler choice.

Device count, validity, stock, and price can change with the Store variation you select. This is why price alone can be misleading. A traditional retail license may cover more years or a different number of devices, while a direct Family plan includes separate accounts and added services. Have a look at what the license actually includes, not only the Total Security name at the top.

Windows-only or multi-device
Traditional Antivirus Plus and Internet Security are Windows products. Traditional Total Security and Family Pack cover Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS. In the direct lineup, even Antivirus Plus is multi-device. So, if you have anything other than Windows PCs, settle this point first.
Device licenses or separate family accounts
Traditional subscriptions are easier to understand by device count. The newer Family plans work differently. Up to five people can use separate Bitdefender accounts across 25 devices, and the Family variation includes Parental Control. This setup is useful, but you do not need it just because several devices share the same home.
SecurePass password management
Bitdefender Password Manager reached end of life on June 15, 2026 and was replaced by Bitdefender SecurePass. Bitdefender’s direct comparison includes password management from Total Security upward. If SecurePass matters to your choice, confirm that it is included with the exact plan before buying.
Standard or unlimited VPN
The current Antivirus Plus and Total Security plans include 200 MB of VPN traffic per day for each device. Premium Security and Ultimate Security include unlimited VPN. Premium Security adds Scam Protection Pro and Email Protection for new Gmail and Outlook webmail messages. An Individual subscription protects up to two inboxes; with a Family subscription, each family member can protect up to two. Ultimate Security adds continuous identity monitoring, dark-web monitoring, breach alerts, and an identity score. Ultimate Security Plus adds regional credit and identity-theft services. Both current plans are multi-device. Antivirus Plus covers one or three devices, while Total Security covers five devices under one account and adds SecurePass, the firewall, Windows optimization, and cryptomining protection. Total Security or Premium Security?
This comparison is mostly about the bundled services. Premium Security adds unlimited VPN, Scam Protection Pro, and Email Protection. If you will not use them, there is little reason to move above Total Security.
Premium Security or Ultimate Security?
The main difference is Digital Identity Protection. Ultimate Security adds that layer to the Premium Security bundle. Move up only if you want it. Ultimate Security Plus goes further with regional identity-restoration, insurance, and credit services.
Renewal, switching, and subscription compatibility
This is where I would be careful. Similar product names do not guarantee a matching subscription. Bitdefender Central can hold more than one plan, but it does not automatically merge them.
- For a normal renewal, match the subscription exactly. The product and user or device configuration must match. A compatible activation code can extend the term when the combined validity stays within Bitdefender’s limit.
- A different product normally becomes a separate subscription. It may run alongside the current one instead of adding its time.
- A direct website purchase starts immediately. Do not buy too early unless Bitdefender confirms that it will extend the matching subscription.
- Retail codes can be region-restricted. Check the country, exact product, device allowance, term, and activation conditions.
- Switching is not the same as renewing. Moving from traditional Internet Security, Total Security, or Family Pack to a newer direct plan may leave two subscriptions in Central.

That said, it also discusses older retail editions such as Internet Security and Family Pack because those products are still widely available through third-party retail channels and remain relevant for buyers comparing retail licenses and pricing. Bitdefender also still provides official support resources for customers who already have these legacy subscriptions in Bitdefender Central. These older retail editions are not always interchangeable with the newer subscriptions sold directly on Bitdefender’s website, which is exactly why they were included.
That said, the distinction between Bitdefender’s current direct plans and older retail editions could be clearer. I was confused between Bitdefender Total Security and Family pack. I do not have any external firewall application and wished to have one and also I wanted to secure my Android phone. So, by the requirements I was left with the choice of Total Security and Family Pack.
Since they are the same product with just device difference. I decided to go for Family pack as I have nearly 10 devices now. Also there is not much of a difference in price between Bitdefender Total Security 10 Devices and Family pack 15 devices. Keeping my future expandability of devices in mind and the discounted prices on Dealarious, I decided to go for Family Pack 2 Years.
